In a major breakthrough, the New Capital Complex (NCC) police arrested Hossain Ahmed, the prime suspect in the 2018 murder of Rezaul Hossain in Agartala. The crime occurred on June 5, 2018, when Rezaul, a young man from the minority community, was brutally hacked to death in the Bholanand Pally area.
Investigations revealed that the murder was orchestrated by Rezaul’s own friend, Hossain Ahmed, who lured him to the crime scene with false promises of sharing profits from an illegal business. Following the crime, Ahmed fled across the border to Bangladesh, making his capture challenging.
Acting on a tip-off, NCC Police Station Officer-in-Charge Prajit Malakar led a raid in Jaypur, Jaynagar, Agartala, where Ahmed was arrested. He was produced before the court and a four-day police remand was secured for further interrogation.
In a related development, the Cachar Police recently dismantled an inter-state car theft gang linked to the murder of truck driver Bidhan Dutta in Manipur. The main accused, Amal Paul, along with others, killed Dutta over a monetary dispute and stole his vehicle. The stolen truck was recovered at the Assam-Mizoram border, and additional arrests were made in connection with purchasing the stolen goods. Investigations continue.
