In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials in Chennai have seized 7 kg of methamphetamine, which was intended for smuggling to Sri Lanka. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals involved in the drug trafficking syndicate.

The NCB increased surveillance at key locations, including bus stands, railway stations, and airports, after receiving a tip-off about potential drug smuggling. On July 24, officials intercepted a passenger from Ramanathapuram district at the Kilambakkam bus stand. Upon searching his possession, they recovered 6 kg of methamphetamine.

Following the passenger’s confession, the NCB arrested two more suspects, leading to the discovery of a drug storage facility near the Redhills area. A raid on the facility resulted in the recovery of an additional 954 grams of methamphetamine.

The three arrested individuals have been identified as Bysul Rahman and Ibrahim from Ramanathapuram, and Mansoor from Chennai. According to P. Aravindhan, Zonal Director of NCB Chennai, the accused had planned to smuggle the methamphetamine to Sri Lanka via Ramanathapuram.
