The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Amritsar Zone, has successfully seized over 80 lakh habit-forming drugs near Bawana in Delhi and arrested Kaushik, a Delhi resident and owner of a firm allegedly involved in the trafficking operation.
Kaushik was arrested at the Delhi airport while attempting to flee the country, following the issuance of a look-out circular by the NCB. The bureau had been investigating a large drug trafficking network, which included significant seizures in Amritsar during November and December. This latest seizure near Bawana marks the largest haul in the ongoing investigation.
Initially a distributor, Kaushik later opened a firm in Delhi. However, his license was revoked after allegations of pilferage of habit-forming drugs. Undeterred, Kaushik opened another firm in Himachal Pradesh, reportedly using false information to secure a license. He then re-established a new agency in Delhi and continued diverting drugs to Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
Ongoing Investigation and Arrests
The NCB’s investigation into this large narcotics racket has already led to the arrest of more than six individuals connected to the scheme. Following Kaushik’s arrest, he was produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate and has been remanded to four-day police custody as further investigations continue.
This significant seizure underscores the NCB’s continuous efforts to dismantle drug trafficking operations that span multiple states.
