BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — A 31-year-old Buffalo, New York, man is behind bars after authorities say he attempted to carry out a scam in Upshur County.
According to Upshur County Sheriff Mike Coffman, deputies were alerted to suspicious activity during a fraud investigation at a local bank. The information was forwarded to investigators with the state Attorney General’s Office.
Deputies later contacted the suspects and arranged a controlled money drop. Although the initial pickup was scheduled for Friday, it was delayed until Saturday morning at the request of the suspects.
When the suspect arrived at the agreed location, Sheriff Coffman and his chief deputy monitored the scene while Sgt. Tyler Gordon made contact with Naymat Ulla. He was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities reported that Ulla was found in possession of approximately $130,000 in cash, gold coins, and several electronic devices at the time of his arrest.
He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on multiple felony charges, with bond set at $650,000.
