In a major breakthrough, police teams from Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand arrested multiple suspects in two high-profile criminal cases — a Rs38 lakh armed robbery at an HDFC Bank branch near Phagwara and a firing incident in Haridwar.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Naveen Singla confirmed the arrest of two key suspects in the Rihana Jattan HDFC Bank robbery, which occurred earlier this year in Kapurthala district. During the daylight heist, three armed and masked men held the staff and security at gunpoint and escaped with Rs38 lakh. They also took mobile phones from employees, preventing immediate calls for help.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team from Punjab Police and UP’s Mathura Police, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), apprehended Navjot Singh and Zorawar Singh — both residents of Jalandhar — near Mathura’s new bus stand at Gokul Restaurant. Police recovered Rs2.02 lakh, five mobile phones, and an Innova believed to be used in the crime. Both have prior cases under the Arms Act registered at Rawalpindi Police Station, Punjab. The third suspect remains at large.

In a separate operation, police in Uttarakhand, working with Kapurthala Police and Bathinda’s Counter Intelligence Unit, arrested Gaurav Kumar from SBS Nagar and Manav Hans from Phagwara in connection with a recent Haridwar firing. The victim survived the attack, and an FIR had been registered against unknown assailants.

Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora praised the swift coordination across states, which led to the arrests during early morning raids on June 12.

Authorities believe these developments signal strong progress in tackling organised crime through cooperative efforts and expect to make further breakthroughs soon.
