TORONTO — Navjeet Singh, 25, was arrested Thursday morning at Toronto Pearson International Airport, ending a nine-month search following a fatal collision that claimed the lives of a Manitoba mother and her young daughter.

Singh, a resident of Brampton, Ontario, had been wanted since November 2024 on two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and one count of obstructing a police officer, according to Manitoba RCMP.

He was taken into custody by Peel Regional Police and Canada Border Services Agency officers after arriving in Canada on an Ethiopian Airlines flight, RCMP said in a statement Friday.

🚨 Crash Details:

On November 15, 2024, Singh was allegedly behind the wheel of a semi-trailer truck that ran a stop sign on Highway 201 near Altona, approximately 90 km southwest of Winnipeg. The truck collided with an SUV carrying Sara Unger, 35, and her 8-year-old daughter, Alexa.

Sara was pronounced dead at the scene. Alexa was airlifted to hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

Singh was also injured in the crash and received medical treatment before being released. He disappeared shortly after, leading to a Canada-wide arrest warrant being issued on November 21, 2024.

💬 Law Enforcement Response:

“From the CBSA to Peel Regional Police, and Manitoba Motor Carrier Enforcement — their assistance was vital,” said Cpl. Jamie Sokolosky of the Pembina Valley RCMP.
“This has been an extremely tough time for the family. We thank everyone who put their concerns and comments out there.”

Singh remains in custody and will be escorted to Manitoba in the coming days to face the charges.
