In a significant anti-drug operation, the Pune Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested Nathuram Jivanram Jat, a 52-year-old man from Rajasthan, for allegedly attempting to sell 1.09 kg of opium in the Kondhwa area. The seized contraband is valued at Rs21.8 lakh.
The accused, a resident of Nagaur district in Rajasthan, was intercepted during a patrol by the Anti-Narcotics team acting on a tip-off. He was found carrying a suspicious bag, which upon inspection, revealed the opium.
A case has been filed against Jat under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Initial investigations suggest he was previously employed as a furniture worker and had traveled from Rajasthan to Pune with the intention of selling the opium for profit.
The raid was conducted under the guidance of DCP Nikhil Pingle and ACP Ganesh Ingle of the Crime Branch. The operation was executed by a team including PI Ulhas Kadam, API Aniket Pote, and constables Dayanand Telange Patil, Sandip Shirke, Vishal Dalvi, Sachin Malve, and Pravin Uttekar.
Police are continuing investigations to trace the supply network and other potential accomplices.
