ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) – Authorities have charged Nathaniel Grant with murder, grand larceny, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime following the death of O’Brian Grant, a student at Claflin University.
The announcement was made during a press conference held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department. Grant, who was arrested earlier in the day, appeared in court at 2:30 p.m. where no bond was set, though a bond hearing may occur later. The judge also ruled that Grant must not contact the victim’s family.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell clarified that Nathaniel Grant and the victim are not related. Investigators were led to the suspect after discovering he had been seen driving the victim’s car and had changed the vehicle’s license plates.
Authorities also found a falsified invoice, allegedly used by Nathaniel Grant to claim he had purchased the vehicle on the day of the murder.
O’Brian Grant’s body was discovered Saturday at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Legendary Drive after a report of a speeding vehicle. Deputies later confirmed the vehicle in question was the victim’s.
Investigators are still seeking a black 2015 Honda Accord with South Carolina license plate 394BHV, believed to be connected to the incident.
