LINCOLN, Maine — Nathan Fortier, 24, of Amherst, New Hampshire, faces several charges following a police chase and theft incident in Lincoln on Sunday evening.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., Lincoln Police received multiple reports of a black Ford F-250 pickup truck driving erratically near White Point Estates Road. Witnesses described the vehicle as having a partially obscured New Hampshire license plate and carrying a red dirt bike in the bed.
One caller reported the truck damaged a private gate, while another reported kayaks stolen by a driver matching the vehicle’s description.
After issuing a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert, Sergeant Daren Mason spotted the truck downtown. When he attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused, leading to a pursuit that extended onto local ATV trails near the I-95 interchange.
The truck was eventually found abandoned. Multiple agencies, including the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, and Penobscot Nation Warden Service, assisted at the scene. The red dirt bike and other items were recovered nearby.
Officers located and arrested a man matching the suspect’s description on foot — identified as Fortier.
Fortier is charged with eluding an officer (Class C), operating without a license (Class E), and theft by unauthorized taking (Class E). He was interviewed at the Lincoln Police Department before being transferred to Penobscot County Jail.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and expect additional charges, including possible vehicle theft, as the pickup was reportedly stolen from New Hampshire.
Officials also noted Fortier is on parole in New Hampshire.
Police thanked the community for reporting suspicious activity, which helped lead to the arrest.
