Natasja Slabbert, 42, a payroll administrator at Isuzu Motors South Africa, was arrested in connection with an alleged R10.5 million payroll fraud in Struandale, Gqeberha.
The arrest was carried out by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in collaboration with the National Prosecuting Authority’s Specialised Commercial Crime Unit.
According to Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Avele Fumba, the investigation began in 2024 after employees noticed lower take-home pay despite higher amounts showing on payslips. An internal review revealed serious payroll irregularities, prompting a referral to the Hawks.
Investigators allege that in August 2024, approximately R626,500 was unlawfully transferred to Slabbert’s personal account. Further probes indicated a deliberate scheme to manipulate payroll records, creating false entries disguised as legitimate deductions. The company reportedly lost over R10.5 million due to the alleged fraud.
Slabbert appeared in the New Law Court, Magistrate’s Court on February 16, 2026, and was granted R5,000 bail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for February 24, 2026, at the Gqeberha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya warned that commercial crime harms workers, businesses, and the economy, emphasizing that individuals who abuse positions of trust will face the full force of the law.
