TENNESSEE — A Nashville man and a Chattanooga woman were arrested Saturday night after police found a stolen firearm along with marijuana, cocaine, and other drugs in their vehicle, authorities reported.
Officers responded to the 1200 block of Poplar Street Court and discovered 27-year-old Tyquan Vaughn standing near the driver’s side of a Ford Fusion. Vaughn, a convicted felon, ignored police commands and walked into a nearby apartment. During this time, officers spotted a gun on the driver’s seat, later confirmed stolen. Vaughn was taken into custody when he exited the apartment.
While Vaughn was being arrested, 18-year-old Tarah Hayes entered the driver’s seat. Police observed her attempting to hide a baggie, leading to her arrest. A search of the vehicle uncovered a red backpack containing a large bag of marijuana and a scale, along with cocaine and pills found in the center console and passenger seat.
Hayes faces charges of tampering with or fabricating evidence. Vaughn is charged with theft of property, aggravated criminal trespass, possession of a firearm with intent to go armed, possession of Schedule II controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both suspects were booked into Hamilton County Jail.
