NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Davidson County man, Angel Javier Diaz Carvajal, has been arrested following a specialized undercover operation led by the Specialized Investigations Division. The operation uncovered a commercial sex trafficking scheme involving online advertisements and coercion.
Carvajal, 34, was arrested Monday after an investigation initiated when an undercover detective responded to an online ad featuring a scantily clad woman and an emoji, offering “30 mins for $150.” The ad directed the officer to a motel on Bell Road in Antioch, where the individual behind the phone number agreed to provide “full service” and arranged a meeting at a locked motel room. In a text message to the officer, Carvajal suggested that the officer could be “taken care of in your car because the room is locked.”
Shortly after, law enforcement observed Carvajal arriving with a female victim and entering the room. When officers attempted to make contact, Carvajal fled on foot but was quickly apprehended after a brief pursuit. Detectives then interviewed the victim, who revealed that she had been manipulated by Carvajal after being promised work in cleaning companies. Instead, she was coerced into prostitution.
According to the victim’s testimony, she had been befriended by Carvajal’s wife, who introduced her to the defendant. Carvajal allegedly coerced her into taking explicit photos for online advertisements and arranged meetings with commercial sex buyers, keeping all the earnings. The victim reported that she had not been paid for a day and a half and was threatened with withholding her payment unless she continued to work. Additionally, she was instructed to lie to police if questioned.
Carvajal has been charged with Trafficking for a Commercial Sex Act (Tennessee Code Annotated 39-13-309) and Promoting Prostitution (Tennessee Code Annotated 39-13-515). The investigation into his activities remains ongoing.
