The Nashik city police have arrested 19-year-old Atharva Deshmukh and his associate in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old girl. Her body was discovered at an isolated spot in Sarole, under the Wadivarhe police station limits on Friday around 1 PM.
Atharva Deshmukh, a resident of Sindkhed Raja in Buldhana district, was apprehended in the Dwarka area, while his friend was arrested from their college campus along Trimbak Road, Nashik.
The police reported that the girl’s body showed injury marks from a sharp weapon on her neck. Initially, with no evidence or identification, the Wadivarhe police registered a murder case against an unknown person under the relevant sections of the BNS.
Speaking to reporters, SP Balasaheb Patil said, “At the time of discovery, the minor girl was unidentified, and there was no immediate evidence. We sent messages statewide to help establish her identity.”
During the investigation, authorities linked the unidentified body to a missing person case registered at the Civil Line police station in Akola. The inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her death is ongoing.
