In a significant case, a 37-year-old man was arrested in Nashik district, Maharashtra, for allegedly impersonating an IPS officer and defrauding a businessman of Rs 1 crore. The accused, Gaurav Ramachheshwar Mishra, reportedly wore a police uniform, traveled in a vehicle equipped with a beacon, and carried a fake ID card claiming to be an inspector general in the Indian Railway Board.
According to police officials, Mishra gained the businessman’s trust after they met in 2018, promising him a lucrative railway contract in exchange for Rs 1 crore, which was paid in several transactions.
When the businessman realized he had been cheated, he demanded his money back. On October 13, Mishra called him to a hotel and allegedly threatened him with a revolver. Furthermore, he reportedly extorted an additional Rs 5 lakh monthly, claiming he could use his supposed influence in the police department to file false rape charges against the businessman.
Following the complaint lodged on Sunday, police arrested Mishra and charged him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
