Guilty of Killing Hakeem Logan

by Sophia Bennett

A 21-year-old Roanoke man has been convicted of a 2021 homicide.

The City of Roanoke Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office reports that Nashawn De’vion Smith was found guilty by a jury of one count of first-degree murder and one count of using a firearm during the commission of the murder.

The verdict resolves a case stemming from a September 2021 shooting that left Hakeem Logan dead. Investigators spent more than three years reviewing physical, digital, and forensic evidence to identify Smith as the shooter.

Smith is currently serving a sentence for a separate shooting that occurred in October 2021.
