On Monday, police arrested Narottam Mohanty, the managing director of the real estate firm M/s Ultra Look Ventures Private Limited, for allegedly scamming a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable of Rs 18.65 lakh. The victim, Umakanta Panigrahi, a CRPF constable stationed in Chhattisgarh, had paid Mohanty an advance for a flat in the project called Maa Santoshi Enclave.
However, after learning of Mohanty’s previous fraudulent activities, Panigrahi decided to cancel the deal. Despite this, Mohanty refused to refund the money. The incident was reported to the Kharavela Nagar police station, leading to Mohanty’s arrest.
In addition to Panigrahi’s case, two other individuals—Sanjay Kumar Panda and Manoranjan Patra—accused Mohanty of defrauding them of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, respectively, under similar circumstances.
This is not the first time Mohanty has faced such allegations. In 2019, Tamando police arrested him for duping a person of Rs 3 crore in a fraudulent land deal.
