In a major anti-drug operation, Bathinda Police arrested two individuals and seized 6.5 kilograms of opium allegedly smuggled from Rajasthan. Senior Superintendent Narinder Singh said the action forms part of the Punjab government’s intensified crackdown on narcotics.
The suspects, identified as Jagsir Singh Seera and Mahendra Singh, were intercepted at a checkpoint near Maharaja Ranjit Singh Technical University. During the initial search, police recovered 4 kilograms of opium, leading to the registration of Case No. 39 at Canal Colony Police Station.
Further investigation, based on disclosures by one of the accused, resulted in the recovery of an additional 2.5 kilograms of opium, taking the total seizure to 6.5 kilograms.
In a separate but simultaneous operation, Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled a cross-border drug trafficking network. Two operatives were arrested with 7 kilograms and 630 grams of heroin, along with Rs21,800 suspected to be drug money.
Both operations underscore the intensified enforcement measures being undertaken across Punjab to curb drug trafficking and dismantle organized supply chains. Investigations in both cases are ongoing.
