PALM BEACH, Fla. — A housekeeper in Palm Beach has been arrested after being caught on video stealing thousands of dollars from a 100-year-old woman she was hired to care for.
The Palm Beach Police Department (PBPD) launched an investigation on March 31, after the victim’s son reported that $9,000 in cash had gone missing from his mother’s bedroom. The elderly woman, who lives in an apartment on S. Ocean Boulevard, requires full-time care due to her advanced age and health condition.
Suspicious of the missing money, the victim’s son installed a hidden video camera in her bedroom. On March 16, the footage captured Nancy Lopez, a 66-year-old housekeeper, removing bed sheets and then discreetly pocketing multiple $20 bills from a concealed compartment inside a bedroom table. The video also shows Lopez adjusting the camera, presumably after realizing she was being recorded.
After reviewing the footage, the victim’s son confronted Lopez via text message, sending her the video and accusing her of the theft. In response, Lopez admitted to stealing the money, offering to return $3,000 immediately and pay back the remaining balance over time.
Based on the video evidence, text messages, and audio recordings, PBPD arrested Lopez. She has been charged with grand theft from a person 65 or older and exploitation of an elderly or disabled adult under $10,000.
Lopez was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and the case remains under investigation.
