NASHVILLE, N.C. (Nash County) — A Nash County woman is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into alleged child abuse and animal cruelty, according to the Nash County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a residence on W. Castalia Road on Nov. 10 to assist Nash County Animal Control. During the initial investigation, authorities seized 35 animals, many of which were reported to be in poor health. At that time, Nancy Beth Gupton was arrested and charged with felony child abuse and cruelty to animals, officials said.
Following a review of the investigation by the NCSO Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Animal Control, and the Nash County District Attorney’s Office on Nov. 17, Gupton was charged with an additional 35 counts of animal cruelty, the sheriff’s office confirmed.
On Nov. 19, investigators returned to the property, executed a search warrant, and arrested Gupton on the outstanding charges. She was formally served with 35 felony counts of animal cruelty by starvation and later posted a $50,000 secured bond, according to the magistrate’s office.
Gupton’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 21, 2025. The Nash County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of children and animals throughout the county.
