Nainital police have arrested four members of an inter-state gang involved in a high-profile burglary at Radhika Jewellers in Haldwani’s Mukhani area. Valuables worth Rs 22 lakh were recovered from the suspects.
The burglary occurred two weeks ago, when thieves breached a wall from a neighbouring premise and stole silver and gold jewellery along with cash estimated at Rs 1.25 crore. An FIR was registered at Mukhani police station under BNS sections 305(A) (theft) and 331(3) (house-breaking with intent).
Police identified a Bolero vehicle linked to the crime using CCTV footage. Based on technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, searches were conducted across several states and near the Nepal border.
The arrested suspects include:
Maqsood Sheikh (Jharkhand) – three gold earrings and a silver coin
Basant Khatri (Nepal) – three gold earrings and three ear ornaments
Tanveer Ahmad (Mumbai) – two gold bangles
Imran Sheikh (Jharkhand) – a silver brick
The vehicle used in the crime was also seized. During interrogation, Maqsood Sheikh admitted involvement in previous thefts in Ranchi and Surat. Verification of their criminal records is ongoing.
The SSP announced a cash reward of Rs 2,500 for the police team led by Sub-Inspector Virendra Chand for the successful operation.
