In a major breakthrough, the Ambazari Police have arrested two individuals involved in a job fraud case that left a Nagpur resident defrauded of Rs8.3 lakh. The arrests were made after an in-depth investigation led by Ambazari Police Sub-Inspector, Mangesh Dange, and his team.
The victim, Nishant Prakashrao Tekade, a 36-year-old resident of Panchavati, Katol Road, was in urgent need of employment and sought the help of his acquaintance, Deepak Kawduji Mupidwar. Mupidwar, along with accomplices Gaurav Ashok Uke and Anis Khan Gulam Rasul Khan, allegedly conspired to dupe Tekade with the promise of securing a job for him as a Section Engineer in the Nagpur Metro.
Between April 3 and June 31, 2024, the accused called Tekade to the L.A.D. College Square Metro Station, located within Ambazari Police Station’s jurisdiction, where they assured him of a job placement. Over several meetings, the fraudsters coerced Tekade into paying a total of Rs8.3 lakh, ultimately providing him with a fake joining letter.
Upon realizing he had been scammed, Tekade filed a complaint with the Ambazari Police. A case was registered against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, and conspiracy.
Following the investigation, police gathered credible leads and, through technical surveillance, arrested Uke and Khan. Both suspects are currently under interrogation. The third accused, Mupidwar, remains on the run, and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.
The police have urged the public to remain cautious of fraudulent job offers and report any suspicious activity promptly.
