by Ananya Mehta

Two men were arrested on Tuesday for snatching gold ornaments worth Rs4 lakh from women using a deceptive method involving a fake flat tire warning.

The accused have been identified as:

K. Nagarjuna, alias Nagarjuna Reddy or Chinna, an auto driver from Anantapur

B. Varaprasad, alias Prasadu, from Kadiri

According to police, the two childhood friends took to chain snatching to cover personal expenses. On June 21, they targeted two women riding a two-wheeler. The duo followed the victims and falsely claimed that the rear tire of their vehicle was deflated.

When the unsuspecting women stopped to check the tire, the accused snatched gold ornaments from one of them and fled the scene.

Following an investigation, police apprehended both suspects and successfully recovered the stolen gold, valued at Rs4 lakh.

Authorities warned citizens to remain cautious of such distraction-based thefts, particularly while traveling alone or in isolated areas.
