Police in Coimbatore arrested three men from Kasaragod on Sunday in connection with a daring highway robbery reported on February 19.
The accused — N Nithin (33), S Sreekumar (31), and K Suthish (39) — were apprehended in Kasaragod by a special team formed by the KG Chavadi Police.
Goldsmith Targeted on Salem-Cochin Highway
According to investigators, the trio targeted M Lukman, a goldsmith from Naduvattam near Pattambi in Kerala. Lukman was returning home on his two-wheeler after selling 200 grams of gold bars in Coimbatore.
When he crossed the Walayar check post, the suspects, travelling in a sports utility vehicle (SUV), allegedly rammed his bike. At knifepoint, they forced him into their vehicle.
Police said while some members of the gang drove away with Lukman, others escaped with his two-wheeler, which reportedly had cash concealed in a secret compartment.
Seizures and Ongoing Investigation
Based on Lukman’s complaint, police tracked down the suspects and arrested them. During the operation, officers seized:
Rs21,000 in cash
The SUV used in the crime
Authorities stated that further investigation is underway to identify and arrest additional individuals involved in the robbery.
