Mysuru: Four youths were arrested on charges of animal cruelty after allegedly mistreating dogs, following a complaint lodged by Kavya, a law practitioner and member of the Animal Defence Council, Bengaluru. Bilikere police registered a zero FIR, with the case now set to be transferred to Hunsur police.
The accused include Karthik from Hunsur town, along with Kiran, Charan, and Manukumar. They have been booked under sections of the BNS for mischief, rendering an animal useless, and under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
According to Kavya, she discovered footage three days prior showing a person assaulting a dog on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. She, along with Priyadarshini of the Animal Defence Council in Mysuru, investigated to identify the individuals, who claimed to be dog breeders.
The team arranged a meeting with the accused at a Cafe Coffee Day near Bilikere on December 9, under the pretext of buying puppies. Local police, tipped off by Kavya and Priyadarshini, detained the four youths during the meeting.
Authorities have confirmed that the case will be formally handled by Hunsur police, and further investigation is ongoing.
