The Mysuru City Crime Branch (CCB), in coordination with Mandi Police, carried out a major crackdown against narcotics, arresting five individuals involved in drug peddling. The operation is part of a broader effort to make Mysuru a drug-free city.
Police registered three separate cases during the operation:
Mohammed Kareem and Nishad Pasha were arrested in the first case. Kareem is a habitual offender with five prior NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases, while Nishad Pasha also has a criminal record of five previous cases. Authorities seized 3.14 grams of MDMA synthetic drugs from their possession.
In the second case, Sanjay and Rajkumar were arrested, with police recovering 585 grams of ganja and seizing a TVS bike used for transporting the narcotics.
In the third case, Mohammed Afaaq, a resident of Rajiv Nagar, was taken into custody for his involvement in the city’s drug network.
As part of preventive measures, Mysuru police have launched a helpline named ‘Vimukti’ (8277948080) for the public to report drug sale, usage, or trafficking. Police have assured that informants’ identities will remain confidential.
Senior officials highlighted that special surveillance is being maintained around colleges, hostels, and student-heavy areas. “Our focus is not only on arrests but also on creating awareness to prevent youth from falling into addiction,” an officer said.
This action follows recent large-scale operations in Karnataka and Maharashtra, where significant quantities of drugs were seized. In Bengaluru, CCB recently confiscated synthetic drugs worth lakhs of rupees within 24 hours, arresting several foreign nationals allegedly supplying narcotics via dark web and courier networks.
In coastal districts like Mangaluru, raids on private hostels and student accommodations have increased to curb drug spread, while border districts like Belagavi see joint operations with Maharashtra to prevent inter-state trafficking.
Mysuru police confirmed that further operations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected. Authorities appealed to parents, educational institutions, and citizens to actively participate in safeguarding youth from drug abuse.
Officials expressed confidence that with coordinated efforts and public support, Mysuru can emerge as a model city in the fight against narcotics.
