Muzaffarpur Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested two men, Iqbal Alam and Mohan Kumar, in connection with separate theft cases involving passengers’ phones and personal belongings late Friday evening. The arrests were part of ‘Operation Yatri Suraksha’ launched in the Samastipur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) to curb thefts on running trains.

According to Muzaffarpur RPF Inspector Manish Kumar, the arrests happened during routine checks and surveillance at Muzaffarpur station. Authorities recovered three stolen cellphones, two gold lockets, and Rs 4,000 in cash from the accused.

The RPF recorded statements from both men before handing them over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further legal action. Investigations are ongoing to determine if they are linked to other theft incidents on trains passing through the region.

The first incident occurred around 3:45 pm at platform number 4 during the arrival of the Raxaul–Anand Vihar Sadbhavna Express (14017). RPF personnel noticed a man running suspiciously after getting off the train. When questioned, he failed to provide a satisfactory answer. Passenger Chand Ansari from Sitamarhi claimed his cellphone had been stolen by the man, who was subsequently searched and the phone recovered.

In another case, a phone and personal belongings were stolen from passenger Mantosh Kumar while boarding a local MEMU train at Muzaffarpur around 6:40 pm. The thief was caught, and the stolen items were recovered.
