Muzaffarpur: The Muzaffarpur police dismantled a large-scale interstate cyber fraud gang and arrested four individuals accused of orchestrating a scam worth Rs 8.33 crore.
The breakthrough came after police received a tip-off about a financial dispute among three youths at a hotel near SKMCH in the Ahiyapur police station area on August 6.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the suspects were operating under the guise of a fictitious NGO and had conducted fraudulent transactions amounting to crores.
According to DSP Himanshu Kumar of Muzaffarpur Cyber Cell, the arrested have been identified as Abhishek Pandey from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh; Krishna Kumar Singh and Vikram Kumar Singh from Madhubani, Bihar. Police recovered several incriminating items including bank passbooks, chequebooks, mobile phones, and documents related to the fake NGO.
Further inquiries uncovered that the gang operated a bank account with forged documents to facilitate cyber fraud, revealing transactions totaling Rs 8.33 crore.
A special investigation team led by senior officials carried out a raid in the Mushahari police station area based on leads from the arrested trio, resulting in the arrest of another suspect, Guddu Kumar.
From Guddu’s possession, police seized cellphones, laptops, biometric devices, and fake Aadhaar card receipts. He confessed to involvement in producing fake Aadhaar cards and participating in various cyber fraud schemes.
DSP Kumar also mentioned that over 20 cyber fraud complaints linked to the suspects’ mobile numbers and bank accounts across multiple states were uncovered during the investigation.
