Detectives have arrested 38-year-old Musyoka Mutava, the prime suspect in a highway robbery that left a driver injured and his vehicle stolen.
The victim, driving a silver Subaru Trezia from Mombasa to Malaba, picked up two hitchhikers near Mariakani. When they reached Kiunduani Market, one passenger said he wanted to get off. As the driver slowed, two assailants emerged from a nearby thicket, struck him with a blunt object, and fled with the car and his belongings.
The injured driver was treated at Makindu Sub County Hospital and discharged in stable condition.
Through forensic evidence and tactical pursuit, officers traced the stolen vehicle to Ukia in Makueni Sub-County, where they recovered the car and arrested Mutava. His accomplices escaped but left behind important clues.
Authorities seized a getaway motorcycle, two sets of number plates—KDH 486F (reported stolen) and KDN 192W—and a pair of screwdrivers.
Mutava remains in custody as detectives continue to search for the other suspects involved in the highway heist, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
