A swift and courageous response by the Pimpri-Chinchwad police thwarted an attempted ATM robbery in the Dehu Road area during the early hours of Tuesday.
Two suspects, Mustafa Mobin Khan and Mustakim Mobim Khan, both hailing from Nuh district in Haryana, were arrested on the spot while trying to cut open an ATM using a gas cutter. Their three accomplices—Yusuf Khan (the alleged mastermind), Varis Khan, and Azad Khan—managed to flee in a vehicle heading towards Alandi.
According to Senior Police Inspector Vikram Bansode of Dehu Road Police Station, the gang is suspected to be interstate criminals, involved in similar ATM break-ins across Maharashtra and other states.
The robbery was discovered by constables Samadhan Patavkar and Kiran Patil, who were on a routine night patrol when they noticed a suspicious vehicle. As they moved in to investigate, some gang members escaped, triggering a swift alert to senior officers.
On checking a nearby ATM, the constables found two men actively attempting to cut open the machine using gas cutters and iron rods. When confronted, the accused threw stones and abused the officers, but were eventually subdued with the help of alert local residents.
Police recovered tools including gas cutters, iron rods, and other break-in equipment from the scene. A manhunt is underway to capture the remaining members of the gang.
