A Fast Track Mahila Court on Monday sentenced M. Murugesan (35) to five years of imprisonment for sexually harassing his minor daughter in a case dating back to 2019.
According to the prosecution, Murugesan, an alcoholic, was unemployed and often stayed at home. During a school vacation, his daughter—then a Class 4 student studying at a school in Dharmapuri—had returned home. Taking advantage of his wife’s absence while she was at work, Murugesan committed the offence on two occasions.
The child later informed her mother about the incidents, following which a complaint was lodged at the Erode North Police Station. Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Murugesan was subsequently arrested and remanded to Coimbatore Central Prison. After examining the evidence and witness testimonies, the court found him guilty and pronounced the sentence.
