In a shocking turn of events, Ankur Rana, one of the key suspects in the murder of a Telangana businessman, Ramesh, escaped from the custody of the Karnataka Police while being transported to the crime scene in Hyderabad. The police escort was en route to the scene for evidence collection when the accused managed to break free and flee.
Rana, who hails from Haryana, was one of three individuals arrested in connection with the October 8 murder of Ramesh, a 54-year-old businessman. The body of the victim was discovered in a charred state at a private estate in Suntikoppa, Kodagu, Karnataka. The police had detained Rana along with two other suspects: Niharika, Ramesh’s second wife, and Dr. Nikhil, an acquaintance of hers.
The escape occurred while the police were taking Rana and the other suspects back to Hyderabad, where the evidence from the crime scene was to be further analyzed. During the escape, Rana not only fled but also stole a walkie-talkie used by the police officers. His escape has led to a manhunt across several states, as authorities work to track him down.
The police now face a significant challenge in both recapturing the suspect and ensuring the safety of the remaining evidence. The escape has prompted heightened scrutiny of the security measures in place during high-profile suspect transfers. Investigators are also looking into how Rana managed to evade custody so easily and have called for increased vigilance during such operations.
Authorities are actively coordinating with neighboring states, and a full investigation into how the escape occurred is underway.
