Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh: Two men, Munish Kumar (21) and Hazari Lal (32), were arrested in the Aliganj area of Bareilly for impersonating police officers to smuggle narcotics, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The suspects were caught during a routine vehicle check on Wednesday. Police seized 100 grams of smack and 700 grams of opium from them, with an estimated international market value of around Rs30 lakh.
Investigations revealed that the narcotics were sourced from Nepal, Jharkhand, and Manipur, and were being supplied across Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya stated that the duo wore police uniforms to evade suspicion while transporting the drugs.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS Act, and both accused were remanded to jail after being produced in court.
