In a major narcotics crackdown, Mumbra police have dismantled an interstate drug syndicate, seizing over 13 kg of Mephedrone (MD) valued at Rs27.2 crore and arresting five individuals. Officials described the operation as the largest conducted by the Mumbra police station NDPS squad to date.

Police laid a trap near Bilal Hospital in Mumbra, leading to the arrest of Basu Umarudin Sayyed, a local resident found in possession of 23.5 grams of MD. A case was registered under the NDPS Act. During interrogation, Sayyed revealed the existence of a larger supply chain and informed police that two suppliers from Madhya Pradesh (MP) were en route with a consignment.

Authorities intercepted and arrested Ramsingh Amarsingh Gujjar and Kailas Shambhulalji Balai, both MP residents, recovering 3.5 kg of MD worth Rs7.3 crore from their possession. Further investigations led a police team to Ratlam district in MP, where they apprehended two more accused—Manohar Lal Ranglal Gujjar and Raju—and seized 9.9 kg of MD valued at Rs19.9 crore.

Police said the accused had prior criminal records, including murder charges and violations under the Arms Act. The operation underscores the NDPS squad’s commitment to dismantling organized drug networks across state lines. Investigations are ongoing to trace further links and accomplices in the syndicate.
