The Mumbai Police have successfully busted a major mephedrone (MD) manufacturing and supply racket operating in Mysore, Karnataka, seizing drugs worth an estimated Rs381 crore. Four members linked to the racket have been arrested.
Earlier this year, in April, the Sakinaka police arrested three suspects and recovered over four kilograms of MD drugs along with raw materials valued at Rs8.04 crore from a location in Vasai, Palghar. One key accused, Salim Imtiyaz Shaikh, also known as Salim Langda, had managed to evade arrest and was on the run.
After extensive investigations and tracking, the Sakinaka police apprehended Shaikh, a resident of Bandra (West), on July 25. During questioning, Shaikh disclosed that the MD drugs were sourced from Mysore, Karnataka, leading to the bust of the drug manufacturing unit there.
Police officials noted that the eight arrested accused have prior records related to NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases. Investigations continue as authorities probe the extent of the racket.
