Mumbai police have arrested two individuals for allegedly breaking into homes and shops across the city to steal cash and valuables to fund their drug addiction. The suspects, identified as Arif alias Rauf Salimulla Khan alias Kubdya (35) and Firoz Farman Ahmed Sheikh (32), were apprehended after a chase on a running local train.

The incident took place on Friday when the duo reportedly broke into a shop in Nagpada, making off with cash and valuables worth Rs1.3 lakh. Police from the JJ Marg police station were able to link the suspects to multiple thefts across Mumbai, thanks to CCTV footage.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused were habitual criminals, and living on the footpath made it difficult for police to gather information about their whereabouts. However, drug addiction ultimately led to a breakthrough in the case.

According to police reports, one of the suspects received a tip-off about an impending police trap in Sewri. After a chase, he was apprehended aboard the local train with the help of commuters who alerted police.

Both suspects are now in police custody, and investigations are ongoing. The case was registered at the JJ Marg police station. Police have assured that further action will be taken to prevent such crimes from recurring.
