Mumbai Police recently busted a major drug racket operating under the guise of a goat farm at a bungalow in Karjat, Raigad. Over the past two months, six people were arrested in connection with the case, with police recovering Mephedrone worth Rs 25 crore.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone VI), Navnath Dhawale, revealed that the RCF police in Chembur arrested one individual on March 19 with 45 grams of Mephedrone. Further investigation led to the arrest of five more suspects from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai who sold the contraband to the person arrested in Chembur.
On May 15, police recovered 6.6 kg of Mephedrone valued at Rs 13.37 crore in the international market. The anti-narcotic squad, led by the zonal DCP, interrogated the five accused, who disclosed that the drugs were produced at the Salvi farmhouse in Karjat.
The accused revealed that Sonu Pathan, previously arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), was running the drug operation disguised as a goat farm. He had rented a bungalow and kept goats to mask the foul smell from the drug production.
“When our team raided the farmhouse, there were around 10 goats,” Dhawale said. The police seized 5 kg of Mephedrone worth Rs 11 crore and raw materials worth Rs 1 crore from the farmhouse.
Sonu Pathan was arrested during the raid. Police are currently searching for another suspect who fled the bungalow during the operation.
