Mumbai’s cybercrime police have arrested three men in connection with a vehicle auction scam that defrauded a city resident of over Rs14 lakh. The scam was operated through a WhatsApp group named “Bank Auction Vehicle Group.”
The accused — Kunal Sanjay Bhai Talasaniya (23), Ajay Manubhai Jhamuriya (19), and Ronit Kamlesh Jadhav (21) — are all residents of Mumbai. The victim, Gurdial Singh, was lured by a link from an unknown number that added him to the group. There, scammers claimed two cars were available for sale at yards in Haridwar and Jammu.
After verifying the vehicle locations through his sources, Singh transferred Rs14,13,890 to multiple bank accounts shared via WhatsApp. However, when attempting to take delivery, his staff found no such sale had taken place.
Police caught Kunal Talasaniya near Shanti Niketan, who confessed to opening fraud-linked bank accounts on the orders of Ajay Jhamuriya for a 5% commission. Ajay was apprehended at Satrasta Chowk and admitted handing over KYC documents to a man named Salman, who paid him 7% per transaction. Ronit Jadhav was arrested near Sai Sharda Building and revealed he opened a bank account passed to a man named Tushar for a 5% cut.
All three have been taken on remand for further questioning as the investigation continues.
