In a major drug bust at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, officers from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) intercepted a passenger attempting to smuggle hydroponic cannabis. The recovered stash weighed 4.14 kg, valued at Rs 4.14 crore.
The arrested individual, Muhammed Hasarudheen Nalukudi Paramb, an Indian national, had arrived in Mumbai from Bangkok early Saturday. Acting on specific intelligence, AIU officials first conducted a personal search of Paramb, which yielded no contraband. However, a detailed inspection of his checked-in luggage revealed the fruiting and flowering tops of hydroponic cannabis, commonly known as weed.
Field tests confirmed the substance as cannabis, with a total weight of 4,147 grams, far exceeding the commercial quantity threshold of 1,000 grams set by government regulations. Paramb admitted to carrying the cannabis and revealed he was promised a significant sum of money for smuggling the drugs into India.
The accused was arrested under Section 67 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and was remanded to judicial custody after his appearance in court.
