Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested three individuals in separate anti-narcotics operations carried out in Awantipora and Baramulla districts of the Kashmir Valley, recovering significant quantities of narcotic substances.
In Baramulla, a police team from Tangmarg Police Station intercepted Mukhtar Ahmad Rather, son of Mohammad Ayoub Rather and a resident of Nambalnar Babareshi, at a checkpoint near Y Point Babareshi crossing. During the search, officers recovered 21 grams of a heroin-like substance along with a digital weighing machine. The accused was arrested on the spot, and a case was registered under FIR No. 85/2025 at Tangmarg Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
In a separate operation in Awantipora, a police team led by the Station House Officer of Awantipora Police Station and the in-charge of the Toll Plaza Police Post intercepted two suspects at a checkpoint in Kachkoot. The arrested individuals were identified as Farooq Ahmad Zaroo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Zaroo of Sether, and Ifahaz Ul Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat of Pujteng.
Searches led to the recovery of 5.42 grams of heroin-like substance, 553 grams of charas powder, and 26.43 grams of charas sticks. Both accused were taken into custody, and FIR No. 242/2025 was registered at Awantipora Police Station under the NDPS Act.
Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and substance abuse, urging citizens to cooperate by sharing information about drug-related or other anti-social activities to help build a drug-free society.
