KINGSTON — A father and son from Campbell Hall face serious charges after allegedly stealing more than $1.2 million from Medicaid by submitting inflated bills and charging for services never provided.
Muhammad W. Khan, 40, was arraigned in Ulster County Court, while his father, Mohammad A. Khan, 68, was arraigned in Shawangunk Town Court. Both own transportation companies serving Medicaid recipients in Ulster County.
State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli stated that the Khans falsified bills and bribed patients to use their services, exploiting the Medicaid system.
Ulster District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji praised investigators statewide for their work in building the case leading to these arrests.
Muhammad W. Khan owns MAK Limo, and Mohammad A. Khan owns Atlas Limo. Together, their companies received over $5.8 million in Medicaid payments.
Under Medicaid guidelines, transportation services are provided for legitimate medical appointments. Providers may not bill multiple times for group rides without prior approval, and mileage can only be billed once per trip.
Muhammad W. Khan is accused of stealing $1.1 million and faces charges including grand larceny, health care fraud, falsifying business records, offering false instruments for filing, and social services prohibited practices.
Mohammad A. Khan was charged with grand larceny for allegedly stealing more than $111,500.
