The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of Eric Obeng Darko, former Headmaster of Dampong Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects — 38-year-old Mubarak Mohammed and 48-year-old Prophetess Elizabeth Darkwah — were apprehended on June 9 and June 17, 2025, respectively, and arraigned before district courts in Kodie and Suame. Police report that three additional suspects remain at large.
According to a press release by ASP Emmanuel Agbodzi, Acting Regional Public Affairs Director, preliminary investigations reveal that in 2024, Prophetess Darkwah allegedly deceived the deceased into giving her money under the pretense of unearthing ancient family gold. She reportedly took him to his residence in Bampenase, near Mamponteng, where she and Mubarak Mohammed allegedly dug up around 20 pieces of a yellowish substance, claiming it was gold needing purification at her church.
However, when the deceased attempted to meet the prophetess for purification, she allegedly evaded him, raising his suspicions.
Police say the situation escalated dangerously when the prophetess conspired with Mubarak Mohammed and three others to abduct and kill Eric Obeng Darko before he could expose their scam.
The victim was abducted and taken to Aboabugya. During an escape attempt, he was struck and run over by a Honda Odyssey driven by Mubarak Mohammed, causing his death.
Both suspects remain in police custody and are scheduled to reappear in court on July 4, 2025. Authorities continue efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
