Nalbari, Assam – Police have made a significant breakthrough in the brutal robbery and murder of Promod Chandra Barman in his own home on August 29. DSP Parikshit Lahan announced on Sunday that three suspects—including a young woman whose identity remains undisclosed—have been apprehended.
The other two arrested individuals are identified as Mrinmoy Bezbaruah from Bahajan and Bhaskar Jyoti Deka from Mokhuli, both of whom have reportedly confessed to their roles in the crime. Authorities also recovered a stolen mobile phone and the scooter used by the suspects in the commission of the crime. However, at least two more accomplices remain at large.
According to the FIR filed at Belsor Police Station (Case No. 83/25), three masked assailants stormed into Barman’s house around 9:45 pm, tied up him and his wife, Mira Talukdar, ransacked the residence, and brutally murdered Barman in front of his wife. The attack has deeply traumatized the family; their son, who lives elsewhere, has demanded swift and thorough justice, suggesting the attack was “pre-planned” by individuals known to them.
Superintendent of Police Supriya Das, who visited the crime scene shortly after the incident, reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to securing justice. The murder has sent shockwaves across Nalbari district, with residents calling for enhanced security measures to safeguard communities from similar tragedies.
