In a significant anti-drug operation, the New Bongaigaon Government Railway Police (GRP) seized 264 grams of drugs from the 12423 Down Rajdhani Express on Wednesday. The bust was part of a targeted search operation carried out based on specific intelligence regarding drug smuggling on the train.
Speaking to the media, Sanjib Choudhury, Officer-in-Charge of New Bongaigaon GRP, stated that the team conducted a surprise inspection onboard the moving train. The raid focused on Coach A-1 (AC 2-Tier), where three passengers were found carrying illegal narcotics.
The accused, identified as Mridula Devi, Aswini Kumar, and Rekha Devi, were travelling from Dimapur to Bihar and had reserved seats in the AC coach. All three were taken into custody on the spot.
Upon arrival at Kokrajhar, the case was formally transferred to the Kokrajhar GRP for further investigation and legal action, according to officials.
Authorities believe the operation is part of a larger inter-state drug trafficking network exploiting long-distance train routes. Further inquiries are underway.
