Mount Olive Pastor and Deacon Face Embezzlement Charges for Stealing $90K

The pastor and deacon of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Olive may face embezzlement charges after allegedly stealing nearly $90,000 in church funds. Stricjavvar Strickland, the pastor, and Armond Barnes, a deacon, have each been charged with one count of embezzlement of over $500.

The investigation into the theft began in October 2024 after the church’s finance committee discovered discrepancies in the church’s books and bank account. Following the findings, Strickland and Barnes turned themselves in to the Covington County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

Strickland’s bond was set at $150,000, while Barnes’ bond was set at $75,000. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to examine the full extent of the embezzlement.
