Florence Police have arrested a mother and daughter accused of stealing nearly $40,000 from a local business through a wire fraud scheme.

Officers responded to Los Dos Hermanos on Mall Road on Nov. 18 after learning that an employee, Kimberlin Dayana Montes Reyes, had allegedly been transferring money from the business into her personal bank account since late October. Investigators say the total amount taken reached $38,800.

Police report that Kimberlin’s mother, Claudia Estela Montes Reyes, helped facilitate the thefts by distracting employees while the transfers were made. Both were charged with Theft of Property in the 1st Degree – Wire Fraud, and warrants were issued for their arrest.

Kimberlin Reyes was arrested at the restaurant, while Claudia Reyes was taken into custody on Anna Drive on Nov. 20. Both women are being held at the Lauderdale County Detention Center on $30,000 bond each.

Authorities reminded the public that all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
