VASS, N.C. — A Vass mother has been arrested following a detailed investigation into the death of her 2-month-old daughter, Gracelyn Uppole, in October 2024.
According to Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields, deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to a distress call on October 2, 2024, after a report of an unresponsive child at a residence in the 200 block of Sunny Road in Vass. Tragically, Gracelyn Uppole was pronounced dead at the scene.
Comprehensive Investigation Leads to Arrest
In the months following the incident, authorities conducted a thorough investigation, which included toxicology and forensic testing, as well as a review of findings from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Based on these findings, investigators concluded that 28-year-old Jessica Diane Uppole, Gracelyn’s mother, had ingested an impairing substance and had placed the infant in an environment that resulted in the child’s death.
Charges Filed Against Mother
On April 28, 2025, Jessica Diane Uppole was arrested and charged with:
Felony Involuntary Manslaughter
Felony Child Neglect Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury
Uppole was placed in the Moore County Detention Center without bond. She is scheduled to appear in Moore County District Court on May 15, 2025.
