MANILA – Authorities arrested a man known as “Morris” for allegedly collecting PHP350,000 each from individuals seeking guaranteed slots in the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confirmed on Sunday.
The operation, conducted by the CIDG’s Detective Special Operations Unit alongside the PCG Intelligence Division, took place on May 22 in an entrapment setup at the corner of P. Campa Street and España Boulevard in Manila.
“Morris” was apprehended while receiving money from PCG applicants. According to CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, the suspect falsely claimed to have influential connections within the PCG that could secure applicants a position.
He now faces charges under Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code (estafa/swindling) for fraudulently misrepresenting his power and influence to deceive victims.
Torre praised the operation, stating it thwarted a larger scam and spared innocent applicants from losing their families’ hard-earned money.
“This arrest is a step forward in protecting job seekers from exploitation. Let’s continue identifying and stopping these criminals who prey on hopeful applicants,” Torre said.
He also urged the public to submit applications only through official government channels and to be cautious of fixers promising shortcuts into public service roles.
