A 32-year-old man, Shaane Alam alias Rehan, was arrested on Tuesday for murdering his wife, Tabassum (40), after she refused to transfer ownership of a house in Moradabad’s TP Nagar area. The property, registered in her name, had been gifted to her by her first husband, Asif, with whom she had five children.
Rehan, a truck driver and mason from Deengarpur, initially attempted to cover up the crime by filing a missing person complaint on May 12, claiming his wife had disappeared. Suspicion arose after Tabassum’s mother, a resident of Chuhanagla in Bhagatpur, filed a separate missing person report at Majhola police station.
SP City Moradabad, Kunwar Ranvijay Singh, stated that investigations revealed Rehan had been pressuring Tabassum to sell the TP Nagar house. Their disputes escalated, and on May 12, he allegedly killed her. Rehan initially misled the police but later confessed to the murder.
He admitted to killing Tabassum, burying her body beneath the stairs of their home, and disposing of her severed head into the Ramganga River. Acting on his confession, police recovered both the body and the head. Rehan has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
