Former jail staff face theft, misconduct, and evidence tampering

by Sophia Bennett

COLUMBIA, Ky. — Two former employees of the Adair County Regional Jail, Montie D. Shover, 55, and Misty M. Shover, 56, have been arrested following an investigation into theft and official misconduct.

The Columbia Police Department reported that both individuals were indicted and arrested on charges including theft by unlawful taking, tampering with physical evidence, and first-degree official misconduct.

The case began on August 18, when the Adair County Jailer filed a theft complaint involving missing personal items belonging to an inmate. Following the complaint, Columbia Police initiated an investigation that ultimately led to the indictment of the two former staff members.

Authorities say Montie and Misty Shover are accused of stealing property directly from an inmate housed at the jail. Columbia Police Chief Evan Burton is leading the investigation.
