MONTICELLO, Ark. — A Drew County jury has sentenced Christina Mix, 52, of Monticello to 15 years in prison following her conviction for possessing more than two grams of methamphetamine and related charges. The sentence was imposed by Circuit Judge Robert Gibson after the jury’s recommendation.

The case originated from a traffic stop on October 30, 2025, by Monticello Police Department officers, during which Mix was found to have an active felony warrant. A search of her vehicle revealed a container near her purse holding approximately 8.8 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, and two glass pipes with suspected drug residue.

Mix was charged as a habitual offender due to more than two prior felony convictions, which under Arkansas law, makes her ineligible for probation or a suspended sentence. Court records show she was previously convicted in 2018 for methamphetamine possession and again in 2019 while on probation, resulting in a 24-month sentence at a Community Correction Center.

During her trial, Mix testified that she used methamphetamine to manage high blood pressure. The state was represented by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kelley Fortenberry, while Mix was represented by attorney Whitney Romans.

According to Fortenberry, the jury’s sentence was appropriate given Mix’s criminal history and the amount of methamphetamine involved. If Mix complies with Department of Correction rules, she could become eligible for parole after serving roughly 45 months (25% of her sentence).

Prosecuting Attorney Frank Spain reminded the public that help is available for those struggling with addiction.
